The Turtle Island Quartet, known for their innovative recordings, again raises the bar with a project ranging in style from jazz, classical, bluegrass to Indian music. There are classic jazz tunes, a solo cello tour de force, an acid-dreamy version of Burt Bacharach’s “Send Me No Flowers” featuring vocalist Nellie McKay, and pieces written especially for the quartet by grammy winning jazz musician/composers Bob Mintzer and Paquito D’Rivera. The title piece of the Confetti Man recording, a two movement work by group founder David Balakrishnan, has been nominated for a 2016 grammy in the Instrumental Composition category.
