RIDING MY BIKE, OR IS IT RIDING ME?

It is definitely the trend in my nice hip neighborhood—north Berkeley, SF bay area—to be riding a bike these days. I joined the fray a couple of months ago, and it cracks me up to see so many folks my age out there pedaling away! I really enjoy it, got my bike hooked up with a side pack so I can buy groceries and stuff, hit Peets coffee and bring back a soy chai in my commuter cup, thus avoiding the current sin of using paper products, save gas money, environment, get some exercise, etc., pretty much a no brainer. Especially given the news these days with the oil spill, so sad to see that happening. We had a gig in Tarpon Springs Florida a couple of weeks ago, a beautiful little city on the west coast just above Tampa, right on the water, which was gorgeous, and the natives were way depressed because they knew what was coming any day. So it does feel like the right thing to do to be leaving my car parked in the driveway and biking around town. Another nice aspect is the weather here, which is just perfect for biking, at least in my way of thinking since I am a north coast weather freak, I love the sight of the fog coming in and blanketing the bay. Cold, yes, but also invigorating and kind of mysterious, must be some sort of past life thing…
